Good Faith Estimate

Your right to a Good Faith Estimate.

Under the No Surprises Act, you may request a written Good Faith Estimate before scheduled care begins.

What You Are Entitled To

The short version.

  • A written Good Faith Estimate before scheduled care
  • An estimate on request, at any time, before you schedule
  • The estimate in writing within the timeframe the law requires
  • A copy to keep
  • Information about the federal dispute process
  • Answers to administrative questions before you begin

What a Good Faith Estimate Is

It is a written estimate provided before scheduled care under federal law. You may request one at any point before you schedule.

If the anticipated course of care changes materially, an updated estimate can be requested.

How to Request One

Ask during the free 5 to 10 minute consultation or submit a request through the contact form. The practice will provide the estimate in writing within the timeframe required by law.

Psychotherapy is not a fixed-length service. An estimate reflects the anticipated frequency and period discussed with you and can be updated if those expectations change.

If the Final Bill Is Substantially Higher

Federal law provides a patient-provider dispute resolution process when a final bill is substantially higher than a Good Faith Estimate. Deadlines apply from the date on the bill.
