Our Specialties and Therapy Approaches
Below are the concerns we treat and the therapy approaches we use. Most people's care draws on more than one approach, chosen to fit their needs.
Concerns
Concerns We Treat
- DepressionWe offer depression therapy in Miami and New York City for people who feel low, flat or disconnected from their own lives. Sometimes depression makes it hard to get out of bed. For many people, it looks more like getting through work and daily life on autopilot, meeting every obligation while feeling very little about any of it.View
- Trauma & PTSDTrauma and PTSD therapy is for experiences that still affect how you feel, sleep and react, long after they've ended. You decide how fast things move and how much you share, and you never have to tell the whole story to be taken seriously.View
- Grief & LossGrief counseling gives you time and space to talk about a loss, whether it happened last month or many years ago. The loss might be a person, a marriage, a pregnancy, a career or the life you expected to have. There's no schedule for grief, and wherever you are with it is a good place to start.View
- Bipolar DisorderBipolar disorder therapy works best as one part of a larger treatment plan. Our therapists don't prescribe medication, so therapy here runs alongside the care you get from your psychiatrist or physician. Sessions focus on the practical and emotional sides of living with bipolar disorder, from daily routines to the relationships that matter to you.View
- Substance Use & RecoveryWe offer outpatient substance use counseling for people who are questioning their relationship with alcohol or another substance. We also work with people in recovery who want help with the feelings and patterns behind their substance use. You don't need a label to start, and you can come in at whatever stage you're at.View
- Life TransitionsLife transitions therapy helps you adjust when a major change reshapes your routines, your relationships or your sense of who you are. Transitions can be hard even when they're the ones you chose and wanted. We offer it at our Coral Gables and Coconut Grove offices in Miami, at our Manhattan office, and online for anyone in Florida or New York.View
- Eating DisordersOur outpatient eating disorder therapy helps with disordered eating, body image concerns and food rules that have gradually taken over. It's provided as part of a team that includes a physician and, where indicated, a registered dietitian. Eating disorders can be hard to see from the outside, and you can reach out whether or not anyone else has noticed.View
- Stress & BurnoutStress and burnout therapy is for the point when time off no longer helps you recover. Burnout usually builds from the way your work and life are set up, so the changes that help tend to be structural as well. Therapy gives you a place to figure out what needs to change and the steps that will get you there.View
- ADHDWe offer ADHD therapy for adults and teens, including people diagnosed later in life after years of assuming their difficulties were a character flaw. ADHD can affect your work, your relationships and the way you see yourself, and sessions focus on the parts of daily life where it gets in your way most.View
- Borderline Personality (DBT-informed)Borderline personality disorder therapy is one of Amber Weiss's core focus areas at Transformative Mindset. Her DBT-informed approach is for anyone who feels emotions very intensely, whether or not a borderline personality diagnosis has ever come up. That level of intensity can be exhausting, and therapy offers practical ways to manage it.View
- Self-Esteem & Self-DoubtSelf-esteem therapy is for people whose accomplishments never seem to count. You might put every success down to luck or timing, or feel you're always one step away from being found out. Therapy gives you a chance to look at that pattern closely and practice treating yourself with more fairness.View

Therapy Approaches We Use
Each page explains what the approach involves and what to expect in session.
- CBTCognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) looks at how your thoughts, feelings and actions affect one another. Together, we find the point in that cycle where change is most within reach, then work on it in practical, structured steps. CBT is available at all of our offices, in Coral Gables, Coconut Grove and Manhattan, and by secure video for clients located in Florida or New York.View
- DBTDialectical behavior therapy (DBT) teaches practical skills for coping with intense emotions, distress and impulsive urges. It's built on two ideas that are true at the same time: you're doing the best you can, and something still needs to change. You can start DBT-informed therapy at our Coral Gables, Coconut Grove or Manhattan office, or online if you're located in Florida or New York.View
- EMDREMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured therapy that helps people process distressing memories so they feel less overwhelming. It uses bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements or alternating taps, while you focus on parts of a memory. We offer EMDR in person in Coral Gables, Coconut Grove and Manhattan, and online across Florida and New York.View
- ACTAcceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) helps you make room for uncomfortable thoughts and feelings while you keep moving toward what matters to you. You don't have to wait for anxiety or doubt to go away before making changes in your life. ACT combines acceptance skills with clear, practical steps based on your own values.View
- Internal Family Systems (IFS)Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy is based on the idea that everyone has different parts, and that it's normal for those parts to want different things. Even the parts that cause you trouble are usually trying to protect you in some way. We offer IFS-informed therapy at our offices in Coral Gables, Coconut Grove and Manhattan. If you're located in Florida or New York, you can also meet online.View
- PsychodynamicPsychodynamic therapy helps you understand patterns that recur in your relationships and your life. We trace each one back to where you first learned it, often somewhere it made complete sense. The aim is for that pattern to stop being your default where it no longer fits. We see clients for this therapy in Coral Gables, Coconut Grove and Manhattan, and by video anywhere in Florida or New York.View
- SomaticSomatic therapy brings your body into the conversation. Along with your thoughts and feelings, we pay attention to physical signs of stress, such as bracing or a tight jaw. This matters because a nervous system that has been on high alert for years often doesn't settle through reasoning alone.View
- Gottman MethodThe Gottman Method is a structured approach to couples therapy. It begins with an assessment of your relationship. From there, you and your partner learn shared language for what goes wrong between you, along with specific skills for the moments that tend to derail you. It often suits couples whose arguments keep escalating or going around in circles.View
- Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is a couples therapy approach that works with the emotional bond between partners. Many recurring arguments, whatever the topic, come down to whether you feel you can reach each other and rely on each other. EFT helps you both recognize the pattern you're caught in and change how you respond to each other.View
- Mindfulness-BasedMindfulness-based therapy uses practical exercises to help you notice your thoughts, feelings and body sensations in the moment. The aim is a slightly longer pause between what happens and what you do next, giving you more room to choose how to respond. We teach these skills in person at our Coral Gables, Coconut Grove and Manhattan offices. Clients located in Florida or New York can also choose secure video.View
