ADHD Therapy for Adults and Teens

We offer ADHD therapy for adults and teens, including people diagnosed later in life after years of assuming their difficulties were a character flaw. ADHD can affect your work, your relationships and the way you see yourself, and sessions focus on the parts of daily life where it gets in your way most.

What We Work On

What ADHD Therapy Can Help With

  • Getting started on tasks you fully intend to do
  • Losing track of time and underestimating how long things take
  • Planners and systems designed for a different kind of brain
  • Shame that built up long before your diagnosis
  • Sensitivity to rejection in relationships and at work
  • Intense emotions that hit before you can think things through

ADHD Diagnosis and Medication

We don't provide psychological testing, and we don't prescribe medication. A formal ADHD evaluation is done by a psychologist or physician, and medication is a decision to make with a prescriber. You can work with us whether or not you've had an evaluation or take medication.

If you're unsure whether to start with therapy or an evaluation, you can ask about it during a free 5 to 10 minute consultation.

How ADHD Therapy Works

Sessions are practical and structured, because that usually suits ADHD better than open-ended reflection. Much of our time goes into building outside supports for your day and refining them as we learn what helps.

Just as important is undoing years of mistaking an executive function difference for laziness. CBT helps you challenge that story, and self-compassion and mindfulness-based practices help with how you react when things slip.

More About ADHD Therapy

What an ADHD Therapy Session Looks Like

A session often starts with how the past week went: what got started, what slipped and where the day got away from you. Then we choose one system to try, such as a routine for getting started, a visible task list or a new way to plan your morning. At the next session, we look at how it went.

How ADHD Affects Relationships

ADHD often affects the people around you as well, through missed plans, forgotten details or one person carrying all the reminders. Therapy can include learning to talk about this without blame and finding new ways to share the load.
