Eating Disorders

Control around food or your body can be a way of managing something else.

Outpatient therapy for disordered eating, body image and the rules that have quietly taken over, provided as part of a team, alongside a physician and, where indicated, a registered dietitian.

What This Covers

It is not always visible from the outside.

  • Rules about food that have grown steadily narrower
  • Eating that feels out of your hands, then the aftermath
  • Exercise that stopped being optional
  • Body checking, mirror avoidance, or both
  • Restriction that everyone around you praised
  • A history of recovery that is wobbling under current stress

Team-based by design

Eating disorders affect the body as well as the mind. Amber requires ongoing medical oversight for this work, and coordinates with your physician and dietitian with your written consent.

Where the medical picture calls for a higher level of care (a partial hospitalization or intensive outpatient program) she will say so and help you find it. Private outpatient therapy is not the right container for every stage.

The therapy itself

In session we work on what the behavior is regulating: anxiety, control, perfectionism, family history, or a body that became the site of something else. CBT addresses the rules and the thinking, DBT skills address the intensity, IFS is useful when the part enforcing the rules is genuinely trying to protect you, and somatic work rebuilds contact with signals that have been overridden for years.

You can ask how this would work alongside your current care.

Tell us a little about what brings you here and we will find a time to talk.
