Bipolar Disorder

Therapy that works with your care team, not around it.

Therapy for bipolar disorder is one part of a larger picture. Amber is a licensed mental health counselor, not a prescriber, and the work is strongest when it runs alongside your medical provider.

The Focus

What we tend to work on.

  • Recognizing your own early warning signs before others do
  • Sleep and routine, which carry more weight here than anywhere else
  • Decisions that feel obvious in one state and expensive in another
  • Repairing the relationships that episodes strain
  • Staying engaged with treatment on the days you feel entirely fine
  • The grief and self-blame that often follow an episode

Scope and collaboration

Diagnosis and medication belong with a psychiatric provider or physician. With your written consent, Amber can coordinate with them so everyone is working from the same information.

If what you need is a higher level of care than an outpatient private practice can offer, Amber will say so directly and help you think about where to go.

How the work is shaped

Sessions borrow from DBT for emotional intensity and impulse, from CBT for the thinking that shifts with state, and from structured routine work around sleep, activity and stimulation. We also spend time on the practical scaffolding: who you tell, what you ask of them, and what an agreed plan looks like.

Tell us what your current care looks like and we will see if this fits.

Tell us a little about what brings you here and we will find a time to talk.
