Depression

Depression Therapy in Miami and New York City

We offer depression therapy in Miami and New York City for people who feel low, flat or disconnected from their own lives. Sometimes depression makes it hard to get out of bed. For many people, it looks more like getting through work and daily life on autopilot, meeting every obligation while feeling very little about any of it.

Common Signs

Signs of Depression

Many people put off reaching out because they don't feel 'bad enough' for therapy. If several of these sound familiar, that's reason enough to talk to someone.

  • Feeling flat or numb more than sad
  • Getting things done but taking no satisfaction from them
  • Sleeping much more or much less than usual
  • Losing interest in hobbies and people you used to enjoy
  • Irritability that feels out of character
  • A constant sense of being a burden to others

Getting Started With Depression Therapy

You can see one of our therapists in person in Coral Gables, Coconut Grove or Manhattan. If you're in Florida or New York at the time of your appointment, you can also meet by secure video. Early sessions focus on what has changed, what a typical day looks like and where your energy goes.

We look at what you've been carrying for a long time, such as grief, resentment, a role you never chose or a change you haven't processed. Depression often builds when something like that goes unaddressed.

How Depression Therapy Works

Depending on what suits you, sessions may draw on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for thought patterns that keep your mood low. Behavioral activation helps you reconnect with things that matter to you, psychodynamic therapy can help when a pattern has older roots, and mindfulness-based and somatic practices address the physical heaviness of depression.

We set clear goals together and review them regularly, so you always know what we're working on and how it's going.

Depression Therapy and Medication

Our therapists are mental health counselors and don't prescribe medication. If you'd like to explore medication, a physician or psychiatric provider can talk it through with you, and therapy with us can continue alongside it.

You don't have to keep feeling stuck in the same patterns.
